Learn more about what we do

About us:

Over the past ten years our President (Kim Conant) and other board members have worked with numerous groups (companies, industry groups, and individuals) and interfaced with governmental regulatory agencies. During our educational seminars and in the course of assisting companies faced with environmental enforcement, we have learned that the one overwhelming concern that most small businesses other groups and individuals have is that they don't know what environmental rules and regulations apply to their circumstances - they don't know which forms have to be filed, permits applied for, and otherwise what they need to do to comply with USEPA and local environmental regulations.

During a focus group session Kim Conant led after giving the keynote speech at the annual conference of The Fabricators and Manufacturers Association, the members were unanimously surprised to learn about the environmental rules that apply to them, the huge fines associated with non-compliance, and the examples of small businesses that received these fines. In every case our board members have been involved with, the business owners were absolutely committed to "following the rules", but none of them knew what they were until after a regulatory agency came in and issued a fine. All of the manufacturers and other businesses and individuals we've dealt with have the same two concerns - how do I find out what I'm supposed to do without going to the agency (they're afraid to ask questions of the regulators, if they even know there's a question to be asked - but they are not afraid to let us help), and how can I afford this "stuff"? A simple air permit application for a small manufacturer can cost over $40,000 to complete! The regulatory agencies will never be able to effectively address these concerns, but we can. In addition to the obvious benefits of environmental education and compliance (avoiding large fines which can be in excess of $30,000/day for each day of non-compliance), our efforts fill the gap that the regulators can't. Also, our actual experience shows that our research and implementation of environmental programs such as compliance, ISO 14001 certification, recycling, waste reduction, product substitution, process change, and training people to work in the environmental field has a significant positive impact on economic development. We help prepare people to become effective environmental professionals and our environmental programs save companies money and help them compete more effectively in the global market. Helping companies cope with the above is our primary focus. As we grow, we will also continue our research (our board members have already won a number of environmental awards for companies), educate and prepare individuals to become environmental compliance professionals, and provide scholarships.

All of our board members and partner companies and individuals have extensive experience in providing environmental education and services. Examples of articles and seminar materials authored and published by our board members are attached. Our funding to date has been provided primarily through the generosity of our board members. We plan to further our mission by seeking support through USEPA and state training grants, providing low-cost/no cost professional environmental services, and donations from individuals, groups, and businesses.
